Cosmogramma: Flying Lotus

There are few artists on planet earth that I can truly say define a generation. Steven Ellison AKA Flying Lotus is one of those golden prolific characters. As I was sitting down trying to prepare a best of 09' list I kept coming back to Flying Lotus' LP "Los Angeles" which is probably in my top 5 favorite albums of all time (ever). I quickly realized that album was actually made in 2008.... What a shame! Forget the past for now... 2010 is larger then life and where FlyLo is concerned, I know that he will be steam rolling. It was announced on Warp Records that Flying Lotus has a new LP coming out. 17 new glorious space opera tracks to enrich our freezing souls. Warp was kind enough to not only release the details of the album but also to show us some love with 3 non-album unreleased tracks. Fucking butter...I love it.

You can download that EP right here

Sleepless Nights and City Lights: Desto

God this town is make me sick. For everyday I fall in love with the wonderful people i've been grateful to meet I have several other days following where im drowning in a pool of my own disgusting thoughts and memories. I could walk on water to work, but I would still go home to the cross. Bring me to the city... fill my lungs with pollution. I'm tired of the stars and open space. Instead bring me tall buildings and cute cultured girls. Let me fall in love with you again big city... take me back!

Desto is my mother fucking shit. Period. (<--syntax?). Little has there been a producer these past months that makes my mouth water so, as does Desto... There is a deep shuffle, an emotive swing, a melodic lure and dark dub waiting in each one of his tracks. He takes "wobbly" slobber and turns it into a crafted artwork of bang bang on the sub. A lot of producers are taking nods into this direction, Desto did it first and he's so far doing it the best. Love the new E.P. love the old shit too....

KANADA

Friends! It's been a crazy week.... I started playing in a new band which has taken a deep focus of my attention. This coming week I should have the parts needed to fix up my turn tables and get me spinning again. My playlist is a deep excursion of the melodic and deep spectrums of dubstep... I can't wait to play Modern Math in the next coming weeks... I have some big shit planned for this blog in future so thanks for sticking with me here.

First of XI is one of the sickest producers in the world right now and low and behold he's from Kanada! Man, it's truly inspiring to see some home grown dubs making waves and charts on the illustrious BBC... Just one of those signals that maybe one day we can make it too?
Anyways, XI's latest release takes some old dub nods from the greats such as Skream and Kode 9 but maintains a fresh and new sound that is dominating my speakers.

To my big boys up in Underwater Calgary! The hand crafters of The Rinse Out are back again with another sledge hammer chune! This newest remix is a crazy mixture of classic deep Piranha broken beat with a sick acidy feeling to it. This track feels like its going to turn into the original house slammer at any second but always jumps into that sick 127 beat, this keeps the track interesting and can build a lot of floor tension in a set. The break down around the 3 min mark happens to be my favorite part of the track were you just feel it rising through the melody then bam into the beats again. Defiantly one of the more melodic efforts by this duo... I truly hope we get more of this to come.

Life has been moving fast. Things are getting good again...sorry that means all you people have to suffer.... 2 (possibly 3) big remixes coming, 2 new originals coming called Professor and Blacksmith, designing a website and hopefully getting a second set of hands to take of some of the load. Life is a gas. Meow.

Another fucking day goes by and prove to myself that I starting everything from scratch. I got my ass kicked last night on the decks and I just couldn't feel it in myself to play well... It was my first night officially "mixing" dubstep and it's so much different then house/4/4 beats. It's good though, I love a challenge and it's time I stopped relying on old skillz anyways... I'm not normal, i haven't slept and i'm not ok. Lethbridge I love you, Calgary I miss you already.

Breathtaken: Birthday Loot

I had an amazing birthday weekend. After finally getting a much needed break from Lethbridge I drifted into the town of Calgary, my old stomping ground. The bus ride seemed to fly for hours and I was met by the company of a wonderful half-japanese girl, whom by the 6 degrees of separation, found out we were well aquatinted by some of the people from the old dayzzzz. It was about 7:45 when I rolled into town and i was greeted by some family, to which i had them quickly usher me to the venue for the reliving of my child hood. What i'm referring to of course is The Corta Vita reunion show put on by the lovely folks of The New Black, a sweet all-ages venue in Calgs. The show went off the fucking rail and seeing Matt Learoyd's band was really cool too. After rocking my fucking face off, i scampered off with Dj Theif (whom i met very serendipitously) to Modern Math, my favorite night in Kanada (let alone Calgary) and saw the wonderful DJ Sigma who slayed the crowd with some actually decent drum and bass. I finished the night off with Theif, Dan Solo, Mr. Geography and BIMA VIDEO all in my company... The best company anyone could share on such a day.

Thank you friends

Here is a tune i've been loving...I basically only play this weird broken-beat garage shit now... enjoi along with classic Corta Vita.

United Groove: Kingdom Remix

Running the daily blogsphere and this one caught my eye... wicked free gem from the lovely folks of Mad Decent! Kingdom has been on my short list of artists I frequently keep my eyes on. I first checked out his mix posted on the The Rinse Out and was completely convinced! This remix takes a track that I honestly wasn't impressed with (original release) and gives it the prefect touch ups and dubdowns... After checking out this remix, I came across the others on the release....Big ups Mad Decent.
